Epoch Publishing
Epoch Publishing is a contemporary publishing company that works with varies artists and writers, from Australia and abroad. Founded by graphic designer, Darien Shield in 2013, Epoch Publishing publishes art books, limited-edition print books and art prints. They also offer these in digital form such as e-books. Epoch Publishing also supports small emerging Australian artists and writers of different backgrounds, giving them a platform. The final logo is contemporary, features an icon which can be used individually without the wordmark. The chosen sans serif worldmark typeface, Roc Grotesk, is inspired by calligraphy scripts and speaks to the history of print. The typeface is uniquely bubbly and welcoming as it is wide and has contrast between the thinnest and thickest line. The logo icon was inspired by the image of an open book (top view), and the visualisation of the “structural" and “inclusiveness” of the brand essence. The strokes are slightly rounded, reflecting print, stamps, a sense of craft. The brand’s spot colour is a green, representing the ecofriendly aspect of Epoch Publishing: its paperless online books offerings, sustainable printing and distributing operations. The business card design utilises the embossed/ desbossed effect. The font consist an embossed print of logo icon on a coloured substrate of the brand colour. The back design is intentionally in white, to be enhance its utility: writing information on white space. The layout of texts on the back design is inspired by the angles from the logo icon. The colour background on one side of the business card also allows the business card to be used as a bookmark. The A6 postcard is made to be purchased by a customer as a gift or given out with a book purchase. It features a quirky illustration of a book character and the back was created according to Australia Post guides for "Hand addressed" guidelines. Logo created with Adobe Illustrator.
